"Low Rider" Santa

We put up our Christmas tree yesterday. With Vanessa's help we decorated it with ornaments and tinsel. It looks beautiful. We also put out the Nativity set and the rest of our decorations. Decorations that date back several generations. Decorations that have over time become family heirlooms. Decorations that will be enjoyed by our children and our children's children.  And then, there's "Low Rider" Santa...

"Titanic" Ferry From Nova Scotia

The weather in Nova Scotia was beautiful all week until Friday when it became windy and rainy. It seemed fairly calm as we boarded the ferry to Portland. Little did we know that we were taking our lives in our hands. It was one of the roughest boat rides we've ever had. So rough they had to close the bar! No wonder the signs were telling us to "Bitte Setzen Sie Sich". But we did manage to make it to Portland in one piece. And half of us got up the next morning to watch the sun rise over the Portland Head Lighthouse. (see below)

Nova Scotia

Nova_scotia

We spent a very nice week in Nova Scotia. Although it turned out to be a lot of driving. (The island is bigger than I was expecting.) But we saw a good portion of it. The red line on the map is most of our route. I didn't turn the gps on until day 2. And a couple of times the batteries died. But you get the idea. On day 1 we drove up through Maine, over into Canada and down into the top of Nova Scotia. (Route 104 on the map.) Scroll down and you can see an action video from our trip...

Tidal Bore

In Truro (Truro Nova Scotia not Truro Cape Cod) we experienced a "tidal bore" on the Salmon River. A tidal bore is caused by the tide rising in the Bay of Fundy and forcing water up into the river channel against the current. So the wave of water you see in the video is actually moving upstream. See that? You learned something new today! Video by Harriet. Audio by an extremely windy day and a lady with a cough. Stay tuned. There's more to come.

Dutch Ships Return to Cold Spring

After 400 years the Dutch have returned. All the way from Dutchland. They were even speaking Dutch! It was a beautiful morning to be down by the river. My only regret is that they never hoisted their sails. Maybe tomorrow I can catch them in Kingston.
